How fast was the ball launched?: Application Experiment

Aim

To determine the speed of a launched ball.

Prior Knowledge

1. Kinematics of motion with constant velocity and constant acceleration.
2. Kinematics of projectile motion.

Description of the Experiment

1. Watch the first experiment. Decide what data you need to collect to determine the speed with which the ball was launched.
2. Collect the data and estimate the speed of the launch.
3. Watch the second movie. Decide what data you need to colelct to find out whether the ball was launched with the same speed as in the first experiment or with a different speed.
4. Collect the data, calculate the speed and decide whether the speeds of the ball if the first and second experiments are the same.
